centuries ago when they discovered this idyllic corner of what has been suitably named “Paradise Gulf”. Inspired by its peace and beauty, the Doges decided to claim this spot as their retreat, or cenobio, where they could gather for meditation and convivial meals together with the priests and cardinals who visited frequently, as attested to by the 16th century chapel dedicated to St. Emilio which is still open to guests.
